Race, Ethnicity and Justice
This course explores the connections between racialization and criminalization. Students are introduced to critical anti-racist and anti-colonialist perspectives on the role of race/ethnicity - and its intersection with gender, sexuality, class and age - in shaping social, political and legal ways of understanding 'crime' and 'justice'. We consider a range of avenues through which people and spaces are racialized and linked to crime as well as the possibility of using the law to obtain social justice.
