Green Criminology and Climate Justice
This course considers the Anthropocene - a time in which human activity has caused largely irreversible changes to the earth's functioning and climate through a green criminological lens. We will explore issues of environmental (in)justice and the ecological implications of criminal legal systems, drawing on Indigenous, critical race, anti-carceral, and animal studies scholarship. Topics may include crimes against animals and the environment, the gendered implications of environmental harm, initiatives to "green" the prison, and more.
