Mad Studies: Contemporary Perspectives
How is the world a maddening place? How does racism, political violence, poverty, hetero-sexism and other oppressive experiences produce and shape "madness"? What are the ongoing resistances to ableist, biomedical, criminalizing and pathologizing psychiatric diagnoses which inform the lives and experiences of mad peoples? To explore and critically evaluate these questions, students will self-reflect, review articles, books, films, and documentaries, and dialogue with guest speakers.
