HIS 560
History of Ancient Egypt
Popular histories of ancient Egypt often only explore New Kingdom pharaohs, such as Tutankhamen and Rameses II. This focuses on the social history of ancient Egypt, beginning with the roots of Egyptian civilization prior to c.3000 BCE and ending with the Late Period (c.712-323 CE). Through art, archaeology and literature, students will consider changes over time in the political and social history of Egypt. Students would benefit from having taken HIS 559: The Ancient Egyptian World.
