HIS 830
The Indian Act: 1876-Present
This course examines the history of Canadian settler colonialism through the lens of the Indian Act - a sweeping piece of racist, paternalistic legislation that has affected nearly every aspect of the social, cultural, political, economic and spiritual lives of First Nations in Canada. More than just a legal or political history, this course will focus on experience of the First Nations who have lived with and resisted the Indian Act from 1876 to the present.
