HST 580
Indigenous History: An Introduction
This course offers a critical introduction to the histories of Indigenous peoples living in and around the Great Lakes region. While the course content will differ from year to year, in most years it will focus on the histories and historical traditions of the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee and Wendat peoples who have called (and continue to call) the lands that now comprise the City of Toronto their home. The course will focus on the periods both before and after the arrival of Europeans and will examine themes related to the changing lives, economies, laws, politics, and beliefs of Indigenous peoples before the nineteenth century.
