JRN 400
Critical Issues in Journalism
This course takes a close look at some of the larger issues that journalists face in their day-to-day work. The list of issues includes, but is not limited to: diversity of race, gender, sexuality and religion in newsroom makeup and story coverage; the changing landscape of news media in the digital age and the revolving notion of who is a journalist in the world of bloggers and citizen journalists; the relationship between journalism and public relations; and the role of news media as a watchdog of democracy. Too many readings. The course is average but this depends on who is teaching it. The professor I had was so scared to say certain things (he was white) and it made the class very awkward sometimes. Guest lecturers were good. Found it very difficult to wake up to go for this class
