MPC 103
Reframing Art History
The course explores the decorative arts, painting, architecture, sculpture, and performance cultures of African, Oceanic, and Pre-Columbian societies from pre-contact through the 19th century. Students examine the collection and exhibition of studied artworks within the context of seafaring, the global slave trade, and colonial expansion, as well as consider the arts institutions and artists movements that resulted.
