PLE 565
Social and Community Planning
This course introduces key concepts in social planning, emphasizing how different communities are (dis)engaged in and impacted by planning decisions. Planning is examined both as a professional practice and as a citizen-led process aimed at managing and re-negotiating our ‘coexistence in shared space.’ Students are encouraged to explore questions such as:What does community-building mean in increasingly diverse contexts? What assets do communities have that social programs and services should build on? Whose voices and knowledge count when planning for sustainable communities? How can planning processes better engage people of different ages, ethno-cultural backgrounds, income levels, gender identities, and abilities?
