SOC 558
Sociology of Bodies
Bodies are material and symbolic, viscerally fleshy objects of regulation and control as well as sites of political struggle along multiple intersecting subjectivities such as gender, class, race, ability, size, and age. Learners will draw from scholarly, creative, and experiential representations to challenge normative occupational, reproductive, techno-scientific,leisure, sport, and sexual discourses and engage multiple theoretical traditions (Indigenous, queer, feminist, post-human,and fat studies) to consider ways in which bodies are constituted by these discourses.
