SOC 609
Gender and Global Human Rights
This course examines abrogation of International Human Rights and patriarchal social control of gender, historically and in the 21st century. It critically assesses the role of the United Nations, governments, NGOs, and community resistance to human rights protections and violations. Explores issues of patriarchal control of gender identities and sexualities; sexual violence, pornography, sex work, trafficking, refugees, war, and genocide; education, work, and healthcare; legitimization role of media and religion, neocolonialism and white supremacy.
