SPS 503
Sex in the Early Modern City
This course, taught in English, studies the construction of sex and gender in the literature and history of the Early Modern World. Students will read a selection of works on women and learning, gender politics, the development of medical studies, sexuality and disease, prostitution, and various forms of sexuality, among other issues. Studying gender relations and their literary and cultural manifestations, students will gain a better understanding of past and present cultural attitudes toward women.
